Wizard Woodside weeders!

On November 10th we were delighted to welcome a great team from Woodside.
Conservation Volunteers Australia organised the day but one of our CCA project sites benefitted enormously from their contribution. We are very grateful to Woodside for their fantastic support to the work of Coastcare community groups all along the metro coastline. They have been wonderful partners over many years and their support – and muscle power, has been a huge boost to us. Thank you to you all!
Andrea from Woodside sent the few words below for our website:
“We love our beaches, and we loved spending time together as a team outside the office making a difference. It was nice to help our beaches that we frequent every weekend. I love working for a company like Woodside who provides us time off to help out our community. It’s a very important part of doing the right thing and being a good corporate citizen. Thanks to Cottesloe Coastcare and Conservation Volunteers Australia for this wonderful opportunity to serve our neighbourhood”.

Woodside weeders with their weed mountain!

The photos show the great mountain of weeds hand pulled by the Woodside weeders in the area near Vlamingh Memorial in South Cottesloe. Sea spinach and rose pelargonium are both environmental weeds that completely smother struggling local vegetation. Local plants in this area have a much better chance of surviving the hot, dry summer now that they do not have to compete for water, light, space and nutrition with the rampant weeds! Local birds, insects, butterflies and lizards all benefit from the restoration of natural biodiversity. And we think it looks good too!
Many thanks Andrea and all the great weeding gang.
